Tip #1. Hide Crown Thinning With Curtain Bangs
From Zooey Deschanel's locks in the 2010s twee era to Brigitte Bardot's classic 60s fringe, this eternal 'cool girl' cut can instantly take years off your look with its symmetry-promoting style. Abdullah swears by curtain bangs to especially conceal signs of hair loss and thinning, as she notes that "they add length and volume so you don't have to spend hours styling." Abdullah adds that they are incredibly versatile and "can be worn short or long, curled or straight," and that the key is to "keep the bangs long enough to cover the eyebrows and frame the face and eyes."
If you are experiencing hair loss at your crown or notice your part widening, Abdullah notes that curtain bangs "make your hair appear thicker, and are a great way to add volume to thinning hair." The style works well for "women who want to hide thinning hair in the front," she emphasizes, as it creates "a soft, natural looking wave at the top of the head." Curtain bangs make your face appear smaller and slimmer when they come down to cheek level.
If you have a tall forehead, Abdullah says, "they effortlessly minimize it." This is different from the obvious effect of bangs that are cut straight across and frequently used to shorten a forehead. "If you wear them at eye level, they bring more emphasis to your smile and can fill in your cheeks as well—the baby doll look," she explains.
#2. Add A Scarf
Whether you go for a headband or scarf, hiding thinning at the top of your head can be done instantly with your favorite accessory of choice, Salem says. "There are a few updo styles that can be used to hide thinning hair or hair loss," he adds, "for example, you can wear a bun with long strands of hair coming out, or you could wear a ponytail with your thinning hair pulled back and pinned up at the top of your head."
Other possibilities include "the half-up bun, the low ponytail, and the messy bun" as updos are "one of the best ways to show off your beautiful face and at the same time cover up any bald spots on your scalp."
#3. Try Pinning Back Your Locks With Bobby Pins
He also recommends using "bobby pins to create the illusion of thicker hair by pinning up certain sections in different ways." Additionally, Salem suggests "wearing a hat, using styling products that have fibers in them, or using temporary dye" to make balding spots less obvious. Apart from these tricks, he also says you can "wear a wig, use a headscarf or even use styling products."
#4. Rock An Asymmetrical Lob
Rivera says that this type of lob, or long bob, is ideal for people who want bold volume, but also want to keep more length. "A textured asymmetrical lob is another terrific choice for fine hair," she explains, because this cut is "so hip that it’s perfect for making our ladies in their prime look super chic." Priyanka Chopra rocks this lob and the asymmetrical look adds to "movement and creates a youthful appeal." By adding texture to the hair, it gives you the opportunity to "remove some of the damaged ends and weight, which bring more life to the hair as well," Rivera points out.
