1. Thick, Blunt Bangs
Bangs are not out of style, thankfully, but we are paying more attention to different types of bangs and acknowledging that there are vast differences in how they can make our hair look. Thick, blunt bangs pull from your hair a little too much to be flattering on thin hair. They can make thinning hair look even thinner, in fact. If you love bangs, consider a more lightweight and texturized Jane Birkin bang, which is all the rage right now.
2. Long, Center-Parted Hair
Ultra long hair is still a look for many, but we’re seeing a shift away from center parts (which aren’t always flattering on thinning hair) and more toward side parts and long layers that frame the face.
3. Short, Face-Framing Layers
As mullets and even short shags start to loose their grip on many, super-short, face-framing layers are growing in a bit. Longer layers that start around the chin are making an impact this season.
4. Super-Choppy Lobs
Lobs are long bobs that reach around the collarbone and often feature soft layers. This cut can create volume without sacrificing too much length. While the lob will still reign supreme for the foreseeable future, super-choppy lobs that feature lots of layers that don’t flow together aren’t going to be seen as much this season.
5. Overly Layered Bob
The same rule applies to the bob: a more sleek bob that has volume at the roots and crown but that isn’t excessively layered is going to take priority over choppy, overly layered bobs.
6. Spiky Short Cuts
Softer pixie cuts with long layers that can be swept to the side are hot right now. But super-spiky short cuts that have short layers all around aren’t a big trend at the moment.
7. Over-Processed Straight
Good news for anyone who has been straightening their hair forever to get rid of their natural texture: there has never been a better time to let that texture (even if it comes with a little frizz) shine through. Over-processed, super-straight hair is not the preferred look right now.
8. Big Hair
Say “yes” to volume that you can create using root volumizing sprays and a diffuser or blow dryer (and a quality round brush never hurts). But say “no” this season to excessive teasing to get that big hair look you hope will conceal thinning hair.
