As Vincent De Marco, hairstylist and owner of Vincent Hair Artistry says, it can be easy to slide into a rut with your hairstyle. Like clothing, haircuts fall in and out of fashion, so having a dated hairstyle can leave you stuck back in the year you first got the chop, aging you significantly. Fortunately, a trip to the salon can have as dramatic of an impact on your appearance as an impeccable skincare lineup. Below, De Marco lays out his four favorite cuts for the New Year that will turn back the clock and instantly shave 10 years off your appearance.
The Pixie
Making the leap to a pixie cut is a bold move, but if you’re looking to shave years off of your face, it may be the cut you’re looking for. De Marco explains, “The pixie cut is a big change, but it immediately gives you a youthful, elegant look that’s easy to maintain. The pixie is a great cut for delicate features--often the shorter wispy razor cuts are very feminine and can take years off your appearance.”
The Bob
If you’ve had your hair long for years, this is another look which can feel like a huge leap. However, De Marco stresses that a bob is the perfect style to inject your look with some youth. “This is a classic look that is both playful and sophisticated. When the hair is cut just below the jawline, this hairstyle frames your facial structure, accentuates the cheekbones, and directs the focus to your eyes lending a youthful appearance,” he says.
The LOB (The Long Bob)
If a bob feels too bold for your liking, consider a lob for a similar effect on your features without as much of the commitment to keeping off the length. “Keeping your hair length arrested at the top of the shoulder creates movement and vitality to the hair itself and brings energy to your appearance,” De Marco adds.
Layered Medium Length Hair
For a longer cut with some movement to freshen up your face, a layered style adds a playful twist to your classic look. “Layers on medium length hair adds volume and vitality. I suggest a soft sweep bang and center part. The styling is important with this one, volume is necessary to maximize the effect of the layers, so styling with mousse, blow dryer and around brush is a must,” De Marco notes.
