Halle Berry and her ex Gabriel Aubry have been estranged since 2010, but the actress recently made some shocking claims that imply she believes she has been extorted for child support. Berry took to Instagram on February 6, expressing her thoughts on gender roles, particularly on the topic of childcare.

In 2014, Berry was ordered to pay $16,000 a month to help support the couple’s daughter Nahla, who is now 12 years old. However, Berry recently took to her Instagram feed, posting a stylistic image of the words. “Women don’t owe you s**t.” and the comment section exploded with their thoughts on gender roles, with the actress occasionally commenting back.
One commenter made a veiled comment regarding the money Berry was ordered to pay, and she responded, “and it takes great strength eryday to pay it. And BTW it’s wrong and it’s extortion !” While she did not explicitly name her famous ex, the implication was clear that she didn’t feel paying him each month was fair.
Berry then went on to explain in the comments, “I feel if a woman or man is having to pay support that is way more than the reasonable needs to help SUPPORT the child, i think that is wrong ! i understand some parents (man or woman) may need help, but i also feel that in these modern times both men and women have the responsibility to financially take care of their children and work hard and make every effort to do so.”
Halle has been paying child support for the past 7 years and also foots the bill for her daughter Nahla’s private school tuition in full. It’s safe to say her recent comments had little to do with supporting her daughter and everything to do with her ex. The actress is also the mother to 7-year-old son Maceo with ex-husband Olivier Martinez.
