McDonald's: Boo Buckets
Though McDonald's has not yet indicated whether or not it intends to offer a Halloween coupon book for the 2023 season as it has done in years past, the fast food giant has confirmed that the classic "Boo Buckets" will be making a reappearance! McDonald's Boo Buckets are plastic pails in multiple designs and colors — traditionally an orange pumpkin, white ghost, and green witch — inside of which Happy Meals are served to kids (and adults who are kids at heart). The Boo Buckets were first offered around 1986, with the buckets replacing the usually Happy Meal toy and ideally used for trick-or-treating. The buckets are rumored to be making their return on or around October 17th, 2023, and will cost the same as a regular Happy Meal, which goes for $4 - $6 depending on your location.
If they do return, the chain's Halloween coupon booklets usually contain a variety of coupons with the booklet's value far outweighing its price. The booklets are generally priced at $1, and 2022's offering totaled $21 in savings from the 12 coupons inside.
Wendy's: 'Boo! Books' Coupon Booklets
Unlike McDonald's, Wendy's has confirmed that its own take on the Halloween coupon book — the "Boo! Book" — will be making a return appearance at its locations this year. Though the chain does not have a Halloween menu item to look forward to, the coupon book will offer great savings across a variety of coupons at a low $1 price. Chew Boom reported that Each $1 Boo! Book contains 5 coupons for free Jr. Frosty treats – no purchase necessary – plus an additional 6th coupon for a $1.99 Kids Meal, with any purchase. You can buy your Boo! Book at any Wendy’s, at the drive-thru window, as well as online or in the app through October 31, 2023 or while supplies last. Coupons are valid through December 31, 2023."
The coupon book is meant to be a great alternative to handing out candy to trick-or-treaters (or for treating yourself!), and it even benefits a great cause—$0.90 of every dollar spent by customers on the Boo! Book will go to Wendy's founder Dave Thomas' Foundation for Adoption.
Burger King: Ghost Pepper Whopper OR Ghost Pepper Chicken Fries
Last, but certainly not least, Burger King will be introducing a special Halloween edition food item to its menu for the spooky season! In the past, the fast food giant has offered a Halloween Whopper, Ghost Pepper Whopper, and Ghost Whopper—this year, customers will be able to vote on what they want to see for Halloween!
On the Burger King app, members of the chain's BK Royal Perks loyalty program can vote now between the Ghost Pepper Whopper or the new Ghost Pepper Chicken Fries as the limited-time Halloween addition to menus. The voting will likely end before Halloween, but it has not been confirmed what date the winning item will be added to Burger King's offerings...though it'll certainly be in place for the Halloween holiday itself!
