Jowls are one of the biggest complaints people have when they consider their skin, how it’s aging, and what they want to do to address signs of aging. Unlike other areas of the face that respond to injectables like Dysport and Botox—such as the forehead, around the eyes, and chin—the jowls are not a place that a dermatologist will typically “freeze.” The lines that form around the mouth are from gravity pulling the skin downward, as opposed to wrinkles that involve muscle movement. For this reason, it’s very difficult to treat jowls and this can be frustrating for many.
Maybe you’re in a place in life where you want to learn to accept certain changes, but not at the expense of looking great. You don’t have to make those kind of compromises, either, because amazing makeup tricks exist to help you out. According to Professional Makeup Artist Erica Taylor, there are a few simple, effective makeup hacks that work like “magic” to disguise and lift your jowls.
Here are the products you need and the easy steps to take.
Pull Out Jowl Shadows
To “pull out” jowl shadowing around the mouth, Taylor uses Kosas Revealer Extra Bright Serum-Powered Color Corrector, which costs $32 and comes in five colors (Taylor demonstrates using the shade "Magic"). She makes small, light dots from the sides of her nose downward and uses a makeup brush to blot them until they fade in to the skin. This trick “fakes” your own filler and places volume into the hollow areas that appear sunken in.

Set Color Corrector With Powder
Next, set your color corrector with a light dusting of light-colored setting powder. Taylor says she never uses this powder around the eyes, where it can settle into lines, but appreciates how it can help lighten the jowl shadows.

Contour the Bottom Jowls
The bottom jowls and jowls around the mouth work together, so after you have brightened the shadows around your mouth, Taylor says the next step is to contour along the jawline where there may be some sagging. When she takes the darker contour makeup, she places it slightly below the jowl and then uses a brush to blend downward, toward the neck. This ensures there is not darkness on your actual face and that the makeup is creating a shadow that helps diminish the jowls.

Set Makeup With Setting Spray
Lastly, set your makeup with a hydrating setting spray that will help keep makeup from streaking and fading. The setting spray can also be used periodically throughout the day to freshen up your skin and makeup.
