Breakfast may be the most important meal of the day, but breakfast foods are not created equally. Whether you are trying to lose weight, maintain weight or simply keep healthy, it is essential that your breakfasts contain fiber, protein, calcium and lots of vitamins and minerals. Morning foods with high levels of carbs should be avoided whenever possible, and you should absolutely never eat sugary foods for breakfast.

One of the worst foods you can eat for breakfast is cereal, because most cereals are loaded with exactly what you don't want: sugar and carbs.

Even more bad news for you: there are some cereals marketed as "healthy" breakfast options, but these are usually just as bad for you as any other cereal.

For example, the Kellogg's Smart Start Antioxidants Cereal seems like it would be an effortless healthy choice for breakfast. It has a lot of nutrients your body needs in the mornings, like protein, iron, calcium and potassium, but even more of the ingredients your body does not need.

A single serving of this cereal contains 56 grams of carbs and 18 grams of added sugars - that's 36% of your daily recommended intake of sugar. Not very good first thing in the morning.

In truth, a "healthy" cereal that tastes good is too good to be true. While having these types of breakfasts every once in a while won't hurt you, in general it is important to stick to low-sugar or no-sugar breakfasts.
