Embarking on a weight loss journey often involves making mindful choices about both the quantity and quality of the food we consume. But it turns out that a higher protein intake into our dinner recipes can be a strategic and satisfying approach to support weight loss goals.
Protein not only aids in muscle repair and growth but also promotes a feeling of fullness, helping to curb overeating. In this quest for a healthier lifestyle, finding delicious and nutrient-packed dinner recipes becomes crucial.
Ilana Muhlstein, MS, RD, nutritionist, author, Tiktok creator with 2M followers, and someone who lost over 100 pounds, introduced a unique and inventive recipe that may be unfamiliar to some, yet encompasses all the elements essential for both effective and sustainable weight loss, all while delivering a delightful taste experience: mushroom cloud pizza.
“If you’re trying to lose weight and eat more protein, you’re going to be obsessed with this mushroom cloud pizza, and yes, this entire thing could be one serving,” she says.
She starts with her standard cloud bread recipe: Preheat oven to 300°F. Beat 1 cup of liquid egg white until it forms into a fluffy cloud. Add 1-1 1/2 tbsp of starch (corn or arrowroot work great). Beat again until well mixed, spread into a 1/2” layer on a large baking sheet, and bake for 25 minutes.
While that is baking, she sautées a variety of mushrooms on a pan with avocado oil, minced garlic, coconut aminos, and Italian seasoning.
Take the cloud bread out of the oven and spread the dairy-free caesar salad dressing you can find in her cookbook. She then tops off the pizza with the cooked mushrooms, chopped green onions, and radish slices for some crunch, and that’s it!
This recipe incorporates several ingredients that can be beneficial for weight loss. The use of liquid egg whites as the base for the cloud bread provides a low-calorie and high-protein foundation. Protein is essential for promoting a feeling of fullness and supporting muscle health.
The sautéed mushrooms contribute to the dish’s rich flavor without adding many calories. Mushrooms are low in calories and high in fiber, helping to increase satiety and control overall calorie intake. The use of avocado oil, a source of healthy monounsaturated fats, adds a layer of satiety and promotes a balanced diet.
Toppings like green onions and radish slices not only contribute to the dish’s texture and taste but also add vitamins, minerals, and fiber. These low-calorie, nutrient-dense toppings enhance the overall nutritional profile of the meal.
