Generally speaking, you eat really, really healthy–yet you still experience horrible breakouts. Sound familiar? Unfortunately, certain complexions are just prone to acne, more than others. But that’s not to say what you eat doesn’t affect the problem, too. If you think you eat healthily but still experience flare-ups with your acne, dermatologists recommend taking a closer look at your diet.

Some “healthy” foods are not very good for your skin, even if they’re good for your body. This skincare dilemma is a lot more common than you may expect. Plenty of people who believe they’re eating a clean diet still consume foods that are harmful to their acne-prone skin.

The “healthy” food that people with acne should stay away from: yogurt. If you struggle with acne, yogurt, in addition to other dairy products, should be strictly avoided, says many leading dermatologists.

Yogurt, especially when it’s Greek yogurt, is praised for being so good for you -- and it is -- just not for your skin.

Now, we suspect that many of you who consume yogurt daily for breakfast or as a midday snack are freaking out over the idea of ditching your beloved go-to health food. Let us reassure you that there are other ways for you to get your protein. You can find non-dairy yogurt alternatives at your local grocery store. Opt for yogurts made with almond, coconut, or soy milk. They taste just as good and won’t cause your acne-prone skin to breakout.
