When you are trying to lose weight, it can become tricky to try to remember all of the foods you have to avoid. There are so many things out there with high levels of carbs, sugars and bad fats – the exact types of ingredients you have to stay away from if you’re hoping to maintain a healthy weight. And to make matters even more confusing, there are some foods that most people think are healthy, that are actually much higher in sugars and carbs than you would expect. Here are the foods you should try to avoid:
Granola
Granola is revered by many as a healthy breakfast or snack, because it is often high in fiber and protein. But in reality, most granola isn’t very good for you. If you buy plain granola with absolutely no sugar added and mix flavors into it yourself, you’re probably in the clear, but if you tend to buy granola bars or pre-made mixes you may be getting a lot more sugar into your diet than you bargained for.
Flavored Yogurt
While it is true that yogurt is one of the best breakfasts or snacks you can eat when you’re trying to lose weight, this is only true for plain or Greek yogurt. If you find yourself buying flavored or sweetened yogurts, you are hurting your diet more than you realize - even if you’re buying non-fat flavored options. This is because the flavors are achieved by sugars and carbs - which are a lot worse for you than fat and calories.
Dried Fruit
Fruit always seems like a healthy snack choice, but it actually isn’t. Many people opt for dried fruits as an alternative to chips when looking for something to snack on during a diet, but this healthy-seeming food is actually quite high in sugar.
Rice Cakes
And just like with dried fruits, rice cakes seem like the ultimate healthy snack choice because they are so low in calories and fats. But rice cakes can actually spike your blood sugar because they are so low in important nutritional values like fiber and vitamins, so eating rice cakes can make you feel hungrier and crave some sugary snacks.
