Eating healthy can be a lot of hard work, and it just got a lot harder. We found a few seemingly healthy foods that aren’t as good for you as most people think. Which means that many of us might be unknowingly eating foods that are slowing down our metabolisms.

Canola Oil

Many people opt for canola oil instead of olive oil or butter when cooking because it tends to have a lower fat content. However, canola oil is one of the worst cooking ingredients you can use because the process of refining it wipes away all nutrients.

Margarine

Margarine can be a bad choice for a similar reason to canola oil. This butter alternative is high in trans fat, which puts you at risk for health concerns like heart disease and high cholesterol.

Soy Milk

Even though soy milk is a very common dairy alternative, it isn’t as good for you as you might assume. It often comes heavily sweetened, using ingredients with high sugar counts. Drinking too much soy milk could bring your sugar intake through the roof.

Granola

Granola looks, tastes and acts like a health food, but the truth is that it is high in sugar, calories and carbs. The best way to eat granola risk-free is to buy it plain and unflavored and mix it into foods yourself.
