Here’s What’s Really In McDonald’s Big Mac Sauce, According To A Former Employee

From Chick-Fil-A sauce to Taco Bell nacho cheese, many fast food restaurants have coined their own signature dipping sauces. But perhaps the most iconic is the infamous Big Mac sauce from McDonald’s. You’re not alone if you frequently get a craving for this creamy concoction.
Luckily for those of us who can’t get enough of the tangy stuff, a former McDonald’s chef, Mike Haracz, just revealed his recipe for whipping up a copycat Big Mac sauce at home—and believe it or not, Big Mac sauce is lacking one shocking ingredient you may have swore was in it. As it turns out, there’s no ketchup in the recipe at all!
Here’s what is in the pink-tinged sauce, according to Haracz:
- 1 cup mayo1/4 cup sweet pickle relish2 tablespoons Düsseldorf mustard1 teaspoon white wine vinegar1 1/4 teaspoon paprika1 teaspoon onion powder1 teaspoon granulated garlic1/8 teaspoon white pepper
“As you can see there is no ketchup in this recipe,” the former McDonald’s chef points out while mixing the ingredients together with a whisk. “The color you get from Big Mac sauce is just from paprika.” Who knew?!
