If you haven’t installed iOS 13.3 on your iPhone, it’s time to stop everything you’re doing and download the new software pronto. Not only is it important to keep your phone’s software up to date at all times so that your device runs better, but once you find out about some of the amazing features you’ll benefit from with iOS 13.3 you’ll wonder why you didn’t update your phone sooner.

Those features include one particularly exciting one for anyone whose iPhone battery dies way sooner than normal. This is the hidden feature every Apple store employee loves because it adds YEARS to your iPhone life.

If you are used to charging your iPhone battery overnight, you are also likely experiencing the effect of a trickle charge — which is when your device charges past 80 percent. The problem with this method is one many aren’t aware of: continually charging your battery to a full 100 percent is damaging to your battery over time.

A new hidden feature that comes courtesy of iOS 13.3 is called Optimized battery charging. This feature “is intended to help prolong your battery's life by learning your charging habits and preventing the battery from immediately charging to 100%,” according to Cnet.

Your phone battery is its best when it holds a charge of between 40 to 80 percent. Optimized Battery Charging helps your iPhone maintain its 80 percent battery charge — but will top it off with the last 20 percent charge immediately before your alarm goes off.

Take advantage of this new battery-saving feature by downloading iOS 13.3 and then heading over to Settings > Battery > Battery Health.

And give your battery the fighting chance it deserves by providing your phone with periodic charging boosts throughout the day, rather than waiting for it to dip down below 30 percent.
