Hilaria Baldwin just can’t keep her story straight when it comes to where she comes from. A few months ago, it was revealed that the 37-year-old wife of actor Alec Baldwin had been lying about her heritage – and now she is claiming that she is culturally “fluid.”
And people still seem to be very annoyed with Hilaria after all of this.
Hilaria had always claimed to be Spanish, ever since she first became famous. But in December of last year, the world found out that this was all a lie. In reality, Hilaria was born in Boston, Massachusetts - and her real name was Hilary Lynn Hayward-Thomas.
This lie angered many people, especially because of the great lengths Hilaria had gone through to make people think she was from Spain. She even went as far as to fake an accent and pretend she didn’t know basic English words.
And now Hilaria is describing her heritage as “multi” or “fluid.” Writing in an Instagram post, she explained:
When you are multi, it can feel hard to belong. You are constantly going back and forth, trying to be more this or more that. You feel you have to explain why you are the way you are, trying to fit into a world of labels when there might not be one that perfectly defines you. You will never quite fit in because the other parts of you shape and influence all your parts. Nothing inside you can truly exist in a segregated environment.”
She added that she feels people “get to curate our individual expressions of our cultures, languages, who we love, what we believe in,” and that people who don’t have the same life experience shouldn’t “devalue.”
Hilaria wrote, “We need to normalize the fact that we are all unique-our culture, languages, sexual orientations, religions, political beliefs are ALLOWED TO BE FLUID… What I had to learn through a very painful experience is that many people relate… so, if you are suffering, please know that a loving group sees your validity and belonging.”
Back in February of this year, after the truth of Hilaria’s background came out, she confessed that she was raised in America with frequent visits to Spain. She said at the time:
"My parents raised my brother and me with two cultures, American and Spanish, and I feel a true sense of belonging to both. The way I’ve spoken about myself and my deep connection to two cultures could have been better explained — I should have been more clear and I'm sorry.”
