Things seem to be changing in Hoda Kotb‘s life! Just one month after confessing that she went on a date for the first time since calling off her engagement to Joel Schiffman two years ago, the Today co-host also revealed that she and her daughters are going to be moving to a new home!
Kotb made the revelation on the March 27th episode of her Making Space with Hoda Kotb podcast, and said she and her two daughters Haley Joy, 7, and Hope Catherine, 4, will be relocating so the girls can attend a new school.
Hoda Kotb Reflects On Her Own Childhood
Hoda then spoke about how the move reminded her of her own childhood, and reflected on how often she moved as a child. "My kids and I are going to move somewhere to a new school, and I was reflecting on my life and how many times we moved when I was a kid," she told bestselling author Arthur Brooks, who was a guest on her show.
"I remember when my parents relocated us to Nigeria when I was in fourth grade, it was a shock," she confessed, adding: "The language was unfamiliar, everyone seemed different, and it was a challenging adjustment. And then again in sixth grade."
Hoda then went on to say that while she remembers overcoming the challenges herself, she feels differently when it comes to her children and feels like she wants to shield and protect them.
"It's so funny because the stories I tell now as an adult, are the stories of how I endured or what I did to cope. Yet at the same time, as I'm preparing my kids, I feel like I'm trying to protect them from things that they should probably be into," she continued.
Tips For Moving To A New Place
The Strength to Strength: Finding Success, Happiness, and Deep Purpose in the Second Half of Life author, who is also a faculty member at Harvard Business School and teaches courses on leadership and happiness, gave Hoda some tips to share with her daughters to help them with their move.
Some of the tips included encouraging the girls to imagine that they have already been living at their new location for years, and also arranging private gatherings like a Bible study or book club at their new home so they can meet new people. "It's a complete game-changer because you speed up the clock," Brooks said.
