Hoda Kotb is shedding light on her daughter Hope‘s recovery following her headline-making health scare. Over a year after her hospitalization, the 5-year-old is “thriving,” according to the broadcast journalist, 60, in a recent interview with People for their October 9th cover story.
Kotb told the outlet that Hope (whom she shares with ex Joel Schiffman) has shown remarkable improvements in her condition since the health incident in February 2023. “She is improving, we’re watching her, and I think that as time goes on, we’ll have a better handle on it,” Kotb said.

Kotb, as her fans know, is also mom to daughter Haley, 7. The longtime Today Show anchor also revealed to the publication (without noting Hope’s diagnosis) that her youngest daughter received “really excellent care” and she praised the “people … helping out” their family. The television personality continued: “I feel like she is finding steady footing.”

The NBC star also shared her excitement about relocating with her daughters from Manhattan’s Upper West Side to Westchester, where the girls can enjoy being “barefoot and on grass.” In August, Kotb and her kids moved, a month prior to her announcement on the Today Show that she will be departing the network next year after almost thirty years.

As reported by The Daily Mail, Kotb also recently got candid about the “agonizing” details behind her Today exit. Kotb confided to People that she wrestled with the desire to spend time with her children while also striving for excellence in her career, finding it challenging to balance the two. “There’s this guilt you carry because you can’t be 100% at work and 100% at home. Something has to give if you want excellence. If you’re going to be excellent at work, something has to give at home,” she said.

Kotb went on: “And if you want to be excellent at home, I mean excellent, and do all the things, something has to give at work. It can’t be equal. I knew I wanted this decade to be different. I looked at my time like a pie. I was like, this is how much time I get, and now what am I going to do with it and how am I going to carve it up?” She added: “And I wanted it to be filled with more of them.”

The anchor surprised numerous fans with her announcement on September 26th that she would be departing from Today after a 17-year tenure as the 10 a.m. hour co-host and 25 years at NBC. She plans to step down from her role in early 2025. While many viewers will miss her presence on television, they are eager to see what lies ahead for her, knowing they can still stay connected through social media.
