Turmeric smoothies and hot water with lemon and cayenne pepper are surefire metabolism boosters — but they both require a bit more time and effort then you may be willing to put in at six in the morning.
An equally effective bet — and one you may already be making: coffee.
Nutritionist Sarah Flowers told Express that drinking a cup of coffee first thing in the morning can “boost both concentration and energy levels” and help you burn calories and fat.
According to Flowers: “Your daily cup of coffee can help boost your metabolic rate, by stimulating thermogenesis, helping you in turn to burn more fat. Coffee also contains Chlorogenic acid, which helps to slow down the absorption of carbohydrates, as well as stimulating the hormone Epinephrine, which helps to break down fat.”
You don’t have to consume four cups of coffee to feel the effect of its compounds, and you’ll probably want to be careful not to drink so much coffee that you overstimulate your system and feel nervous and anxious before your day has even started.
But, with that said, a combination of antioxidants, acids, and of course caffeine found in your daily cup of coffee all work together to give your metabolism a nice boost while suppressing your appetite.
Coffee should never be a replacement for food. But, as a supplement, a cup or two in the morning, along with a high-protein breakfast, provides fuel and a little kickstart to your calorie-burning efforts.
