Inflammation can occur in your belly or your joints but the result is still the same: uncomfortable, tight bloating that doesn’t allow for you to feel, move, or even look your best. While there are foods you can eat that help to relieve inflammation, tea is another fantastic remedy that has been proven to target the source and provide relief from the bloating we all dread. If you struggle with inflammation caused by stress, food intolerance, or even illness, these are the three hot drinks you should be cycling through in order to finally resolve the bloat standing in the way of your best self.

Green Tea

Green tea has a number of well researched benefits, and easing inflammation is one of them. While it can help to target joint pain caused by arthritis primarily, it can also do wonders for soothing the GI tract and allowing your digestive system to run more smoothly. Mind Body Green reports, “Along with those health benefits, green tea may also have positive effects on the gastrointestinal system. Drinking it "may even offer relief for many digestive disorders that are commonly associated with bloating such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease," Emily Kyle, R.D tells us.” Hot drinks are naturally more soothing to bloating, so make sure to steer clear of iced green tea if you’re feeling particularly inflamed, even as we get closer to the summer.

Turmeric Latte

Turmeric is one of the best anti-inflammatory spices, so brewing it into a tea can do wonders for your digestion to ease bloating. A turmeric latte, or it’s trendier title, golden milk, is both delicious and great for you, targeting inflammation from the curcumin found within turmeric. According to Byrdie, “Turmeric is a common treatment for dyspepsia, which translates to a variety of digestive issues like gas, bloating, and nausea. In one double-blind study, individuals with the disorder saw relief from their symptoms after ingesting curcuma (a derivative of turmeric) four times a day for seven days.”

Ginger Tea

Ginger is useful in soothing nausea and discomfort in the belly, but it can also be helpful for cutting through bloat and providing relief to distention. Well+Good explains, “Studies have shown ginger to be effective in decreasing inflammation, swelling, and pain, thanks to a compound called gingerol,” says Tracy Lockwood-Beckerman, RD, in an episode of You Versus Food. “Gingerol is a bio-active compound in ginger which has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.” Brew up some ginger tea if you’re feeling inflamed or uncomfortable in your body and your belly should be feeling and looking better in no time.
