You may already be well aware of the importance of backing up your phone on occasion so that all of your files and data are safe and sound, even if your phone, let’s say, crashes and loses everything important. But what, exactly, does that mean in terms of how often you should take time out of your day and back up your device? The truth is: you may not be taking this important step often enough. Here’s how often you should actually be backing up your iPhone, accord to tech experts.
Every Single DayTo avoid losing essential items and having your iPhone upgraded, backing it up daily would be the way to go, advises Tech Expert Stephen Curry, CEO of CocoSign. “Although through iCloud, iPhone tends to backup automatically whenever connected to a powered charge cable, you need to backup manually for assurance,” Curry says.
You may be wondering what are some signs to look for that indicate it’s time to back up your phone. That answer isn’t so clear — but trust your gut when it comes to preserving specific items on your phone. “In my opinion, I have some of the most important stuff saved in my iPhone, and it is unthinkable to lose it all suddenly,” Curry says. “I know that it is time to back up each time I see the phone misbehaving. For example, it repeatedly restarts itself, keeps losing the network, and has slow speeds to process simple things like iMessage.”
