Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip have been married for almost 73 years. Their marriage is the longest any British sovereign. Prince Philip is always dutifully at the side of his wife when called upon. But, in 2017, the same year the royal couple celebrated their Platinum anniversary, Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, moved 100 miles away from Buckingham Palace.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip were married on November 20, 1947, at Westminster Abbey. The couple’s marriage has spanned 7 decades and they have 4 children and plenty of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Phillip has always been active in his royal duties until his official retirement in 2017.
It’s not unusual for a member of the royal family to step away from their duties (I’m sure you all know about Megxit by now.) However, Prince Phillip elected to move to Wood Farm Cottage located in Norfolk. The queen, as the current head of state, had to remain at Buckingham Palace.
Queen Elizabeth is still very active with her royal duties, which keeps her from visiting her husband often. Prince Phillip is quite content away from the hustle and bustle of London. It seems like royal business will keep the couple apart during the remaining of their golden years.
Both the Queen and Duke well into their ’90s and have already made preparations for how they will handle their final goodbye to each other. The queen will keep going as long as she can and will pay a visit to her husband every now and then, depending on her schedule. When you’re the queen, duty to the country comes first.
