A variety of ice cream products from the boutique ice cream shop Belgian Yummies located in Fort Meyers, Florida are being recalled after it was discovered that the packaging does not reflect the allergens that the products contain. Ice Cream Sandwiches and take-away containers of Gelato do in fact contain “the presence of wheat, soy, egg, coconut, and/or peanuts and FD&C Yellow #5,” but customers wouldn’t know it based on the packaging. Keep reading for all the details.

Belgian Yummies Ice Cream Recall

The US Food & Drug Administration reported the recall, which was issued voluntarily by Belgian Yummies, on April 9th, warning consumers about the risk of "serious or life-threatening" allergic reactions. The recall includes the following products that were sold in Florida:

Undeclared Allergens

The statement released by Belgian Yummies indicated that the packaging of the above products did not reflect allergens in the ingredients. "People who have allergies to wheat, soy, egg, coconut, and/or peanuts or have a sensitivity to FD&C Yellow #5 run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products."

"The problem was caused by outdated labels being used during the packaging process," the announcement continued. The affected products were not available for retail sale, and were rather distributed to wholesalers in Florida. No reports of illness in relation to the products have been reported to date.

What To Do If You've Purchased The Recalled Products
