House Republicans Vote For Impeachment Inquiry Into Joe Biden—But Democrats Say It Has 'No Credibility'

On Wednesday evening, the House of Representatives voted with a 221-212 majority to formalize an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. The inquiry will be investigating whether Biden improperly benefitted from his son’s foreign business dealings. However, as both Biden and Democrats in the House have pointed out, they have no evidence of any wrongdoing by Joe Biden.

While it is highly unlikely that even if Biden is impeached that he will be removed from office due to a Democratic majority in the Senate, there is no question that Donald Trump will use this investigation in a smear campaign against Joe Biden as a campaign strategy for boosting his own popularity. House Votes To Formalize Impeachment Inquiry Into Joe Biden

Later in the evening on Wednesday, Dec. 13th, the House of Representatives voted to formalize an impeachment inquiry into Joe Bide, despite a lack of evidence of any wrongdoing.

Democrats are outraged at this stunt pulled off by the Republican majority. "This whole thing is an extreme political stunt. It has no credibility, no legitimacy, and no integrity. It is a sideshow," says Representative Jim McGovern, a Democrat from Massachusetts.

Representative Jerry Nadler, the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, who oversaw the two impeachments into Trump, agrees: "You don't initiate an impeachment process unless there's real evidence of impeachable offenses. There is none here. None." Republicans are now saying that they are using the impeachment inquiry as an opportunity to find evidence.

When asked by a reporter, "Can you identify any actual policy decisions that Joe Biden has made in response to getting paid for those policy changes?" Republican Representative Nancy Mace from South Carolina said, "That will be part of the investigation."

Some Republican representatives have let slip their true motivations for authorizing this impeachment inquiry. When asked by a reporter, "What are you hoping to gain from an impeachment inquiry?" Republican Representative Troy Nehls from Texas replied, "All I can say is Donald J. Trump 2024."

The Bidens' Response

In a rare statement, Joe Biden has commented on the inquiry: "Instead of doing anything to help make Americans' lives better, they are focused on attacking me with lies. Instead of doing their job on the urgent work that needs to be done, they are choosing to waste time on this baseless political stunt that even Republicans in Congress admit is not supported by facts."

Donald Trump is the only president to be impeached twice, and has time and time again called for vengeance against his political rivals, including Joe Biden. Many of his allies in the House were the ones pushing for this impeachment inquiry, so it is safe to say that this could very well be a political stunt.

Hunter Biden, the president's troubled 53-year-old son, also commented, saying, "There is no evidence to support the allegations that my father was financially involved in my business, because it did not happen."

He continued, "In the depths of my addiction, I was extremely irresponsible with my finances. But to suggest that is grounds for an impeachment inquiry is beyond the absurd. It's shameless."
