You’re probably used to hearing all of the many reasons why your phone could be making it impossible for you to get a good night’s sleep. Aside from the very important fact that blue light emitted from your device can mess with your sleep and wake schedule, the simple act of scrolling (and scrolling and then scrolling some more after that) could be responsible for consuming so much of your time before bed. Before you know it, an hour has passed and you’re still on your device (and have lost crucial rest time).

But here’s something you hear less often: your iPhone can actually help you get to sleep — specifically, certain accessories can help in a major way. This is the surprising iPhone accessory that can actually help you sleep better.

A Blue Light Filter

Since blue light is a culprit that keeps you up, it stands to reason that a blue light filter or blue-light-blocking screen protector would prove one of the best accessories you can invest in to counter its effects.

“Blue light is known to suppress melatonin production, a hormone that regulates sleep and can interfere with your natural sleep cycle,” says Tech Expert Keith Terrell, the founder and CEO of Backpacks Global. “By reducing your exposure to blue light, you can improve your sleep quality. A blue light filter or blue light-blocking screen protector works by filtering out the blue light emitted by your iPhone’s screen, making the display appear warmer and easier on the eyes. This can help reduce eye strain and improve your ability to fall asleep.”

Aside from improving sleep quality, Terrell adds that a blue light filter or blue light-blocking screen protector can also be used to reduce eye strain and fatigue when using your phone for extended periods. “Additionally, it can help protect your eyes from long-term damage caused by blue light exposure,” he says.

Also Try: Sleepbuds

While you’re improving your sleeping habits via tech, why not look for a pair of Sleepbuds that can help lull you to a restful slumber?

“Your partner’s snoring, loud neighbors, or even traffic noises can keep you awake at night,” says Lorraine Thompson CEO/founder of bestfloristreview. “The Sleepbuds may help you fall asleep if you need anything to block out the noise. These tiny earphones emit relaxing sounds like a forest or ocean wave, white noise, or rhythmic instrumental music while passively blocking outside noise.”

Thompson also recommends using the iPhone’s Health app to help you achieve your sleep objectives. “You can make different timetables, such as one for the weekdays and another for the weekends,” Thompson says. “A Sleep Focus assists in minimizing distractions prior to and during bedtime for the sleep regimens you specify. It can block calls and notifications, for instance, and let others know when you’re unavailable. A wind-down phase can also be set to start anywhere between 15 and 3 hours prior to bedtime. When your wind down period starts, your Sleep Focus kicks in.”

Of course, the best way to set yourself up for sleep success is to limit your phone exposure at least two hours prior to bed. But these helpful accessories can unite tech and your sleep goals and ensure you get an even better night’s sleep.
