There are apps that are obvious iPhone battery drainers and then there are apps that are less conspicuous about tracking your online and offline movements — and these are the ones that you might want to think twice about keeping on your phone.

If you’re concerned about privacy, or simply want to find a way to increase your battery power, deleting a few apps can help.

Here are four iPhone apps that are always draining your battery — even when you’re not using them!

Facebook

Whether you are actively using the Facebook app or not, it is constantly keeping track of the websites that you visit and your other browser activity. There’s a reason why Facebook ads for shoes or tech gadgets you were checking out suddenly appear just when they’re in your thoughts — not having the Facebook app installed on your iPhone can help.

Find My Friends

This app was created specifically for the purpose of tracking your location so that it can connect you with friends (and strangers) who are within your vicinity. Sure, that might be fun if you’re looking for someone to join you for a cup of coffee, but remember: the app is working overtime to track you.

Instagram

This isn’t much of a surprise, given the fact that Instagram is owned by Facebook, but the social media app tracks your location, which explains how it automatically knows a photos’ exact location coordinates. Worse still: it was discovered in 2018 that Instagram gave Facebook access to your location so that it could send you targeted ads for products that might interest you.

Google Maps

It’s pretty obvious that Google Maps and other apps that rely on GPS have to track your location to do their jobs, but what’s less obvious is that you should always remember to manually turn them off when you’re finished relying on them. If you don’t, they will continue to work for you and consume battery power.
