Oh, the things we would do for an iPhone that has a longer lasting battery that can take us from morning until (late) night without searching frantically for a charger. Good news: you don’t have to spend money left and right at an Apple store to make that happen — a few simple, free, easy adjustments to how you are currently using your device will do the trick.

Here are four things you didn’t know you could do to make your iPhone battery last SO much longer.

Use Airplane Mode

Whenever you enter a room where you lack a strong signal for connectivity, there’s one thing you can do right away to help maintain battery power: enable Airplane Mode. This one step disables Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and puts the brakes on your phone’s battery. Swipe up on your screen and tap on the airplane icon.

Delete Battery-Hogging Apps

It’s a fact: some apps are hogging your battery more than others. The way to determine which apps are doing a number on your device is by going to Settings > Battery and checking out the list of apps to determine which are sapping your battery power most. Whether the culprits are Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, or a game like Words With Friends, you can then make an informed decision about whether it’s worth keeping those apps on your phone.

Turn Down The Brightness

A bright screen is a battery killer. Tone down the brightness by heading over to Settings > General > Accessibility > Magnifier > Auto-Brightness, which prompts your phone to adjust its brightness setting according to how much power your phone has left.

Keep Software Updated

Always update to the latest software on your phone so that you keep your device current and working well, while ensuring your battery isn’t working overtime. Go to Settings > General > Software Update to make sure you are running the latest software on your phone.
