Smartphone tips and tricks aren’t always mysterious — sometimes they seem obvious, but can make a huge difference when it comes to your phone’s battery charge. We spoke to a tech expert who clued us in on the one iPhone hack you need to know to help prevent battery loss. This brilliant hack will take just a few seconds out of your day and the pay-off will be a smartphone that will stand the test of time.
Chances are high that you use your smartphone for everything under the sun. Scrolling hundreds of websites, making and breaking appointments, snapping photos and creating videos and content. But all of that heavy use can tax your device and leave a footprint of your actions in its wake. And, according to Stephan Jacob, editor at bestforandroid.com, steps should be taken to mitigate all of the ways you use your device.
“The secret to an iPhone that can retain battery for a longer period of time is to end all the background activities that are consuming your power without your knowledge,” Jacob says. “This includes closing your recent applications, turning off your location setting, and most of all, turning off your data. Keep in mind that whether your screen is active or not, these activities are consuming some amount of power from your battery which explains why your battery charge decreases even if you are not using your iPhone.”
Taking these steps is simple.
To close an app on your iPhone, double click on the Home button, swipe right or left to find the app you want to close, and then swipe up to close the app.
Turn off your location settings by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services. Select an app and turn Location off.
And now for the last important step: turning off data on your iPhone to save battery power. On the Home screen go to Settings > Cellular > and tap Cellular Data to turn it on or off. You can also turn data on and off for specific apps, if you prefer.
These simple, but effective hacks may just take you from low battery status to a highly functioning and long-lasting smartphone battery in no time.
