It’s the age-old question when you have an iPhone: how can I get my battery to last longer without having to constantly stop and charge it? Depending on the age of your device, the answer may just be that you need a new battery. But before you drop money, text experts suggest spending a little time enabling and disabling certain iPhone settings, which can actually help your battery run faster. Some settings are so taxing on your phone that they take a major toll on your device and will significantly reduce battery power. These are the three iPhone settings you should turn on (or off) for a longer-lasting battery

Turn on your Lower Power Mode

Turning on low power mode is a smart approach to save battery life, particularly during intensive use, according to Tech Expert Mark Valderrama, CEO and founder of Aquarium Store Depot. “When the available battery power on your iPhone reaches 20% and 10%, it will notify you,” Valderrama says. “If you activate low power mode, the device will make many modifications to extend the life of the remaining battery charge. Once the low battery power alert appears on your screen, you can engage the low power mode. The low power mode merely disables certain non-essential functions of your iPhone until it is hooked into a charger. When the battery power reaches 20%, the mode will be turned off.”

Disable Location Services

“Location Services on the iPhone and iPad are a major power drain regardless of the application being used,” says Dustin Porreca, SEO and growth manager at Elevate Demand. “In this case, Google, Chrome’s default search engine, uses it frequently to generate location-based results. Additionally, you may have ‘authorized’ other websites to use the functionality to locate your position. To disable Location Services in Chrome, follow these steps. Step 1: Launch iOS Settings and select Privacy. Tap Location Services on the ensuing screen, and then Chrome. Chrome Stop battery discharge. Step 2: Choose Never, then return to save your changes.”

Turn Off Background Location Settings

While keeping the location on is important while using GPS enabled apps or delivery apps, most users forget to turn off location when they no longer need these services, warns Jason Wise, chief editor at Earth Web. “Keeping the location on at all times drains your battery as it is constantly updating backgrounds apps with the new location coordinates,” Wise says. “However, it can be a hassle to toggle the location settings on and off as per your needs. To avoid this, go to the app settings for any app that uses location, and change the location settings to ‘While using the app’. This will automatically turn on location when you’re using the GPS supported app, and turn off when you close the app. Simple, convenient, and battery-boosting!”

Ready to gain back more battery power? Start by adjusting these settings — that may be all that’s needed to make a big change in how your phone operates.
