When you’re running out of iPhone storage everything on your phone is affected by it. You won’t be able to take more photos or video or download new apps. Your phone can become stalled and super slow to load pages. In a nutshell: a storage-less phone is a useless phone.

Thankfully, there are ways to gain back valuable iPhone storage space, and they start with these game-changing tips. Take control of your device by putting a few of these tips into effect.

Find Out What’s Taking Up Storage

You can only solve your pressing storage problems when you know what’s causing them. In this case, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. See which files and apps are taking up the most space on your phone and then consider deleting what you can to free up space.

Optimize Photo Storage

The biggest culprits behind storage issues are photos and videos. But you can actually optimize your photos so that they save smaller photo files to your device, which saves previous storage space. When you do this, your full-resolution photos will be saved and stored in iCloud, where you can access and download them. Go to Settings > Photos > enable Optimize iPhone Storage.

Save Media To a Cloud Service

Media files eat away at storage space. One smart solution is to store photos and videos in a third-party cloud storage service and not right on your device. From there you can delete media files off your phone and save storage space. Before you do this, make sure you’ve backed up your media to a place like Google Photos.

Staying on top of your photos, videos, and other media files is one proactive way you can avoid being surprised by storage full pop-ups (which are just seriously the worst). Make good use of third-party cloud services and do your best to address some of the most taxing apps and files you already have on your device so you can free up storage space.
