If you’re the kind of creative person who loves taking lots of photos and videos on your iPhone, you may have noticed an unfortunate side effect: a battery that doesn’t hold its charge for as long as it should. Photo-taking can drain your phone of battery power much faster, but there are ways to prevent it from happening. Tech Expert Samuel McGraw, founder and CEO of Design Hub, says there are a number of ways to extend the life of your iPhone’s battery and keep it running smoothly, and many of these tips can be applied specifically to the iPhoto app. Here are a few iPhoto hacks that he says you might find helpful:
Enable Low Power ModeLow Power Mode is a feature that is built into the iPhone that can help extend the life of your battery. “When Low Power Mode is enabled, your iPhone will automatically adjust its settings to reduce power consumption,” McGraw said. “This includes disabling features like automatic downloads, email fetch, and some visual effects. To enable Low Power Mode in iPhoto, go to Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode. When Low Power Mode is enabled, iPhoto will stop automatically downloading new photos and will only update when you manually refresh the app. This can help reduce the power consumption of the app and extend the life of your battery.”
Reduce Screen Brightness“The display on your iPhone uses a lot of power, so reducing the brightness of your screen can help extend the life of your battery.,” McGraw said. “To adjust the brightness in iPhoto, go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Drag the slider to adjust the brightness. You can also enable Auto-Brightness, which will automatically adjust the screen brightness based on the ambient light level. By reducing the screen brightness in iPhoto, you can help extend the life of your battery by reducing the power consumption of the app.”
Close Unused AppsWhen you close an app on your iPhone, McGraw warns that it is still running in the background and consuming battery power.
“To close iPhoto, double-click the Home button, then swipe up on the app to close it,” McGraw said. “You can also go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh to turn off background app refresh for iPhoto. By closing iPhoto when you are not using it, you can help reduce the power consumption of the app and extend the life of your battery.”
Turn Off Location ServicesLocation services use GPS, cellular, and Wi-Fi data to determine your location, which can drain your battery. “If you don’t need location services for iPhoto, you can turn it off by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services.,” McGraw said. “You can also turn off location services for all apps by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services. By turning off location services for iPhoto, you can help reduce the power consumption of the app and extend the life of your battery.”
Check For Updates“Installing the latest software updates can help improve the performance of iPhoto and extend the life of your battery,” McGraw said. “To check for updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is available, follow the prompts to install it. By keeping iPhoto up to date, you can help ensure that the app is running efficiently and consuming as little power as possible.”
By following these iPhoto hacks, McGraw says you can help prolong the life of your iPhone’s battery and keep it running smoothly. “It’s also a good idea to avoid extreme temperatures, use a high-quality charger, and remove any protective case before charging your iPhone to help extend the life of the battery,” McGraw added.
