Walmart always has crazy good deals on what seems like everything! From food to clothes to decor to furniture, many people use Walmart as their one-stop-shop. But, just because they always have deals doesn’t mean they’re always good deals. Keep reading to find out what items you shouldn’t buy at Walmart.

1. Televisions

This may come as a shock because Walmart does have a lot of deals on TV’s, but other big-box stores have them beat. Trae Bodge, a shopping expert, shared his insights: “While Walmart is very competitive when it comes to the pricing of electronics, it doesn’t always have the lowest price.”

He recommends using “a deal site, like Slickdeals, to look for deals at competitors, like Amazon, Best Buy, Target, or Newegg.”

2. Laptops

A laptop is an important purchase for many people, and they can get really pricey. For better deals on laptops, you’ll want to shop somewhere other than Walmart. Lindsay Sakraida, director of content marketing for Yotpo, says that within the last few months, “less than 1% of DealNews’ price-checked laptop deals were sold at Walmart, which means your chances of finding a good price there are very slim.”

Rather, try shopping directly at the Microsoft or Apple Store. And look out for coupons and seasonal sales!

3. Wrapping Paper

With holiday season just around the corner, your sights may be set on finding the best price for quality wrapping paper. Well, we’ll tell you right now that you won’t find it at Walmart. Regina Conway of Slickdeals says, “The quality of the wrapping paper you’ll find at Walmart is comparable to the paper you’ll find at dollar stores for a lot less.”

So, if you’re fine with lower-quality wrapping paper, you should shop at a dollar store. And if you’re looking for high-quality wrapping paper, you shouldn’t shop at Walmart, either.

4. Batteries

Batteries are also better off bought somewhere else, says budgeting expert Andrea Woroch. “When I compared the price per unit on batteries,” she explains, “the best bang for your buck is at a warehouse store like Costco.”

But, if you don’t have a membership at Costco, Woroch says “Walmart was the next best deal.”

5. Bedding

You don't want to mess around with finding good quality bedding. You spend nearly 1/3 of your life in bed, after all! You'll want the best quality for the best price for this one, and you're not going to find that at Walmart. Conway says, "While the price might seem right, given how many hours are spent in bed, a better quality can be found at a comparable price at merchants such as T.J. Maxx, Ross, and HomeGoods."

6. Beauty Products

Next, you'll want to stay away from the beauty section at Walmart, especially online. Walmart allows third-party sellers to sell products on their site, so it's hard to tell if the item you're searching for is authentic.

Rebecca Gramuglia, a retail expert at TopCashBack.com, weighs in: "Buying beauty products can require a lot of research and trust, especially when navigating the internet. Always make sure you're buying from an authorized, trusted store," she says. "This can get tricky when navigating Walmart's search results as they have third-party resellers."

7. Honey

Honey is actually much cheaper to buy at a different big-box store: Costco. Julie Ramhold of DealNews.com says, "You're better off buying from Costco where it's cheaper per ounce no matter how you buy it—online, in store, or for delivery via Instacart—rather than purchasing it from Walmart."

And it's not just a matter of price, either. Ramhold continued, saying, "Personally, I think the quality of the honey from Costco is top-notch, too, so it's far better than Walmart in that aspect as well."

8. Plants

You'll definitely want to avoid buying plants from Walmart, no matter how healthy they seem to be in store. Craig Wilson, director of Gardener's Dream, says, "Plants from Walmart tend to contain neonicotinoids. These are a class of pesticides and it is harmful to pollinators." You definitely don't want to bring that into your home, especially when you're looking to bring in some fresh air.

9. Meat

Walmart isn't the place to buy any kind of meat, both because of the quality and the price. Gramuglia said, "You can definitely find better deals and a better quality selection of meats at your local grocery store or farmer's market."

While some things don't have to be the best quality to serve their purpose, meat is not one of them. Try visiting your local butcher for better quality and a better cut of meat.

10. Greeting Cards

Lastly, you'll want to look elsewhere for greeting cards. Though they may have a large selection, they definitely don'y have the best price. Budgeting expert Andrea Woroch says, "You'll find the best price at the Dollar Store where you can snag them for $0.50 each."

She also recommends buying in bulk when you go. "Think ahead to which celebrations and birthdays you will be celebrating over the next six months and buy enough cards for those events." This way, "you'll have them when you need them, and don't end up spending 10x that amount out of connivence at the grocery store."
