The Trumps are back, and the ladies are making bold fashion statements for the world to admire!

While much of the attention was on the outfits worn during Inauguration Day, we can’t stop thinking about the stunning Oscar de la Renta gown Ivanka Trump chose for the Inaugural Candlelight Dinner on Sunday night.

The brand’s Instagram page described the gorgeous ensemble as a “custom off-shoulder crystal and pearl floral-embroidered empire waist gown with silver stole” with “individually embroidered crystals and cabochon pearls.” See the photos here!

However, everything the first daughter does comes with some backlash.

Many individuals expressed their discontent on Oscar de la Renta’s Instagram page, calling for a boycott of the brand after they dressed the mother of three and Usha Vance. Critics accused the fashion house of supporting “harmful” figures for profit, with some followers pledging to unfollow the brand.

Comments included:

“Fascism—but make it fashion.”

“Always have loved. Sad to be done with ODLR. I don’t support brands that support fascists.”

“I have styled many celebrities in your couture for years and have followed ODLR since the 70s. You should be ashamed of yourselves. NEVER again with your brand. Oscar is rolling in his grave. Shame on you.”

“Beautiful dress but the wrong model.”

“Beautiful gown, but sadly to the wrong person. Unfollowing.”

Despite the backlash, many people loved the gown and praised the fashion house for putting politics to the side and focusing on their craft.

Ivanka Trump Fans Defend Oscar de la Renta for Dressing the First Daughter

Ivanka’s fans wrote:

“As a Dominican-American, New Yorker who voted for Trump, I’m very proud of this designer of Dominican descent. Thank you, Ivanka and Trump, for supporting Hispanics.”

“Stunning! Thank you for being a brand that puts politics aside and focuses on your lane of expertise: making people look fabulous. I loved seeing Jill Biden in your creations and love this too. Please continue to stay above the petty political commentary. There’s a place for it, but not here.”

“I am just so surprised the real Americans comment so negatively! This is a dress! A dress for god’s sake! A customer comes and wants to buy your dress. What?! You are going to say no to her!?!?!? THIS is your way of democracy?!?? Saying NO to a customer willing to buy a dress!?!?”

The backlash wasn’t limited to Ivanka’s dress—many fans were outraged that the top fashion brand also dressed Usha Vance for both the Vice President’s Dinner and the inauguration.

This marks a significant departure from 2017, when many prominent designers opted not to dress the Trump women or anyone associated with their circle.
