Jamie Foxx Admitted To Hospital Over Brain Bleed

Foxx was in Atlanta on April 11, 2023 when he got a severe headache. A friend told him to take an aspirin, but before he could, he passed out. A doctor gave him a shot of cortisone and sent him home, he recalls, but his sister, who he credits with saving his life, sensed that he needed something more.

"My sister said, 'No—get him in the car; that ain't my brother right there,'" the Oscar winner explained. They ended up at Piedmont Hoospital, where a doctor diagnosed him with a brain bleed that to a stroke and said that he needed to operate immediately.

Fox continued his story, explaining that he "woke up" on May 4th with no memory of the last twenty days. He also couldn't walk and needed to be pushed in a wheelchair and had difficulty speaking and forming sentences. He was flown to Chicago to begin the recovery process, which the doctor described as rather grueling. "He may be able to make a full recovery, but he's gonna have the worst year of his life," the doctor said to Foxx's sister.

Jamie kept out of the spotlight for a year and a half, focusing solely on his recovery. Now, he's feeling back to his normal self, having just released his Netflix stand-up special, What Happened Was... In it, he addresses his journey towards recovery: "I went to hell and back," he said.
