The name “Deidra Dixon” may not be a household name, but it seems we all owe her a debt of gratitude!

Deidra, the sister of Oscar winner Jamie Foxx, was credited by the actor in an Instagram post this week with saving his life in the midst of his recent health scare. Jamie, 55, shared a sweet tribute to his sister for her birthday on Tuesday, writing in part that “Had [she] not made the decisions that [she] made I would’ve lost my life.”

Jamie’s birthday Instagram post for Deidra was truly touching, with a caption that read, “Happy birthday to my beautiful for sister @frequency11 ‘D’… you are magical you are beautiful you are the courageous lionesses #leoseason And without you I would not be here. Had you not made the decisions that you made I would’ve lost my life…. I love you forever and ever happy birthday sis #swipeleft.” The tender testimonial accompanied a series of photos of Deidra, including a picture of the brother-sister pair hugging and smiling.

The actor suffered a “medical complication” in April, and though no other details are known about his health scare, many friends and family have come out in support of the star’s recovery. In an Instagram Reel posted on July 22nd, the Ray actor spoke about going to “hell and back” with his health in recent months, finally breaking his silence about the scary situation. “I cannot even begin to tell you how far it took me, and how it brought me back,” he said in the video. “I went through something that I thought I would never, ever go through. I know a lot of people were waiting, or wanting to hear updates, and to be honest with you—I just didn’t want you to see me like that.”

Celeb friends shared many well wishes in the post’s comments section, with The Rock writing, “I’m gonna bear hug the f— outta you when I see you again,” and Will Smith commenting, “Awww man!! Who’s cutting onions?? Love U Foxx! Your light is needed ‘n appreciated right now!” Other big names who cheered on the actor’s recovery included LL Cool J, Viola Davis, Steve Harvey, and Reese Witherspoon, who notably received her Best Actress Academy Award in 2006 from Foxx, who had won the Best Actor Oscar the previous year.

In Video Breaking Silence About Health Scare, Jamie Foxx Said 'I Went To Hell And Back'

Foxx was incredibly candid in the video, in which he went on to describe what had happened and how hard he fought to become well again. Continuing his explanation of why he hadn't shared any public comment about his medical scare, the multi-hyphenate said, "I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, a television show. I just didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through...I went to hell and back, and my road to recovery had some potholes. But I'm coming back, and I'm able to work."

Along with the apparent influence sister Deidra had on his recovery, Jamie also credited his daughter Corinne with saving his life. "I cannot tell you how great it feels to have your family kick in in such a way," Jamie admitted. "And y'all know they kept it airtight, didn't let nothing out. They protected me and that's what I hope that everyone could have and moments like these."

The "Gold Digger" singer also debunked rumors that he had been blinded or paralyzed, but did not downplay the seriousness of his situation. "I've been sick man, but now, I've got my legs under me, so you're going to see me out. I'm here on Earth because of some great people. I'm here on Earth because of God."

Indeed, Jamie has been slowly making his way back into the public eye the last couple of weeks, including a memorable incident earlier this month where he was captured in a TikTok video returning a woman's lost purse to her in Chicago, much to her shock and delight.
