Jay-Z is hitting the headlines for a number of different reasons at the moment – but we still can’t help but reminisce over an old interview he gave to Dean Baquet for The New York Times about cheating on Beyoncé.

The now 55-year-old rapper gave the truly unforgettable interview back in November 2017, blaming the fact that he cheated on his wife, now 43, on childhood issues. Keep reading to remind yourselves what else he said in the infamous interview…

Jay-Z Talks About Cheating On Beyoncé In Resurfaced Interview

In the interview, which you can check out here, the "Empire State of Mind" hitmaker spoke about a number of different topics, including his song "The Story of OJ" from his album 4:44. But it was what he said about cheating on the "Run the World" singer, who he married in 2008, that understandably got the most attention.

The rapper appeared to be very remorseful about cheating on the "Texas Hold'Em" singer, with whom he shares daughter Blue Ivy and twins Rumi and Sir, and said: "The hardest thing is seeing pain on someone's face that you have caused and then having to deal with yourself."

Jay-Z Seemingly Explains Why He Cheated On Beyoncé

The rapper, real name Shawn Corey Carter, told the pub that shutting down his emotions, which he had allegedly done for years due to issues from his childhood, and pushing his wife away, were to blame for the cheating.

He explained that he had spent years building up walls due to issues from his childhood, adding: "You have to survive so you go into survival mode, and when you go into survival mode, what happens? You shut down all emotions."

"So, even with women, you gonna shut down emotionally, so you can't connect," he continued, adding: "In my case, like, it's deep. And then all the things happen from there: infidelity."

The record executive also told the pub that the couple could have gotten divorced after the "Single Ladies" singer found out about the infidelity, but admitted that he chose to talk through his issues in therapy instead. And that appeared to save their marriage!

Therapy Seemingly Saved Beyoncé And Jay-Z's Marriage

"You know, most people walk away, and, like, divorce rate is like 50% or something 'cause most people can't see themselves," the "Renegade" rapper said.

And if we are to believe what an insider told InTouch earlier this year, it seems like both Beyoncé and her husband still attend regular therapy sessions to keep their marriage on track. Jay-Z reportedly also follows his wife's strict set of rules, which include regular date nights and no one-to-one sessions with female talent.

"Jay's ultimately very grateful that she didn't give up on him back in the day. So he shows his respect by following her rules," an insider reportedly told In Touch earlier this year. "They work hard at making their marriage work, and they're in a healthier place since Beyoncé put her foot down," the source added.
