During a call-in interview with Cagle and her co-host Julia Cunningham, Garner shared the real reason why she hasn’t been on the big screen much in the last several years, save for the 2018 film Peppermint. “I think when I look back at that time, that third kid, oh, I’m so glad I have him, but I was so overwhelmed. I almost don’t remember the first year of his life. I was just so overwhelmed by an infant-toddler-little-kid combo.”
Garner also shared that she felt that other mother’s made parenting appear effortless, and she was shocked by how exhausted she had become. “I was just gobsmacked by the amount of mothering that was required. And I didn’t know how I was ever going to set foot in the world.” Garner shares three children with her ex-husband Ben Affleck. Her oldest daughter Violet is 15-years-old, Seraphina is 12, and Samuel is 9.
Now that Garner is an old pro at parenting she’s returning to acting with a starring role in the Netflix film Yes Day, where she plays a mother who allows her children to make the rules for 24 hours without saying no. She even recently revealed to Michelle Obama that she’s done a yes day of her own with her children during the summer when she’s “run out of anything fun to do.”
