According to Variety, the 44-year-old retired baseball star and the 50-year-old singer have been working with the bank’s co-head of North American media investment banking, Eric Menell.
The A-list couple needs just a little help in securing the New York-based team as Rodriguez and Lopez have a combined net worth of around $700 million and the Mets is worth a whopping $2.6 billion, CBS Sports reports.
The current Mets owner, real estate developer Fred Wilpon, was in talks in December to sell up to 80 percent of the New York-based team to hedge fund manager Steven Cohen but the talks fell through. Next up to the bat are none other than Rodriguez and Lopez.
Who better to buy the Major League Baseball team than a retired Yankee himself? Rodriguez almost played for the Mets back in 2000 before joining the Texas Rangers and then the New York Yankees in 2004.
Rodriguez admitted to Jimmy Fallon during the March 9 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that he would be interested in looking at buying the Mets.
According to Bleacher Report, Rodriguez revealed to Fallon that he was a big Mets fan growing up and “would certainly look at it” if he was ever given a chance to buy the team.
Of course Rodriguez wouldn’t be going in on the deal alone, as his New York sweetheart Lopez was raised in the Bronx. We can’t think of better Mets buyers than them!
