Jennifer Lopez just announced that she has canceled her upcoming tour, less than one month before it was due to kick off in Orlando, Florida. According to People, the 54-year-old multi-hyphenate released a statement to tell her fans that she had chosen to cancel the This Is Me… Live tour “to be with her children, family and close friends.” Fans who have already purchased tickets through Ticketmaster will reportedly automatically be refunded.
“I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down,” the statement, which was released on her OnTheJLo website on May 31st, read. “Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary,” she continued, adding: “I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again. I love you all so much. Until next time…”
However, the “On The Floor” singer’s fans (and non-fans) aren’t buying her reasons for cancelling, as they believe that poor ticket sales, teamed with the poor reception she is getting right now, might actually be the real reason!
Jennifer Lopez Is Facing A Lot Of Criticism Right Now
It's no secret that the Marry Me actress isn't coming across well with the public right now, with her seemingly "rude and arrogant" behavior on last month's Met Gala red carpet only being the beginning.
She has received a huge amount of criticism for her This Is Me… Now album and her This Is Me Now… A Love Story movie, with many sources also reportedly suggesting that she is the real reason for her marriage to Ben Affleck allegedly being on the rocks. The Shotgun Wedding actress is also coming under fire for her latest movie Atlas, as it has reportedly already been panned by critics.
The tour itself has also received a huge amount of criticism online. If you'll recall, the "I'm Real" singer was criticized for her sky-high concert ticket prices, which in turn led to very poor ticket sales. The sales were so bad that the "Love Don't Cost a Thing" singer even rebranded her tour as a 'Greatest Hits' tour to try and get more ticket sales, but they still weren't shifting. And as expected, social media has had a field day following the cancellation announcement…
Social Media Reactions
"It's hard to realize that you are not relevant anymore. Rudeness doesn't pay off," one fan slammed on a Just Jared Instagram post about the tour cancellation, while many others referenced the extortionate ticket prices.
"I guess them tickets wasn't ticketing," quipped another, as a third said: "Maybe because you made nosebleed seats $400 at Madison Square Garden. The ticketing system is broken and this is what happens when someone with moderate following prices out the fans who would have actually come. Let this be a continuous lesson for other artists." "Tickets sales were poor and I really think it played a part in her canceling the tour," speculated another, as another agreed, writing: "That's because she couldn't sell a ticket to save her life."
Many others simply thought she was lying for saying she wanted to spend more time with her family and friends, when they believed the real reason was down to poor ticket sales. On a CBS Mornings video which was posted on Facebook, one critic said: "What a lie. She didn't cancel. No one bought tickets. She such a joke." "Lies, she does not care about her family. She is devastated because nobody bought tickets. Simple. Not the money she expected." Another Facebook user said: "Her kids don't need her. She is done. No one wants to see her sing."
The reactions on X were just as, if not more, critical, with many fans also agreeing that she must have canceled the tour due to poor ticket sales. "Wait so the media really going to tell us J-Lo canceled to spend time with family. Tickets weren't selling let's just be honest," wrote one fan. "No it's getting canceled because NOBODY wants to see J-Lo's non-singing [expletive]" added another. "Translation = Poor ticket sales," noted another X user.
"J-Lo saying she canceled her summer tour to spend time with family and friends. Whatever you say sis," wrote another fan who wasn't buying her excuse. "Come on, not the real reason. How embarrassing," commented another. "Rumor has J-Lo couldn't get any of her ghost singers to sing for her so tour canceled," joked another. "She is not Taylor, Madonna, Beyonce or GaGa. But thinks she is," slammed another user. "The tour canceled her," added another.
