Jessica Simpson Describes Divorce As The 'Darkest Time'
In an interview with People, the mother-of-three describes that the divorce occurred while she was in the midst of recording her new album in Nashville, titled Nashville Canyon: Part 1. "I got thrown a real twist of fate in the middle of making this record," she said. "My heart was completely broken. I had to continue to focus on the music. Thank God, I had Nashville."
"I have been through the darkest time," the 44-year-old continued. "Being held up by the most light in an odd way. I've grown up so much. I can handle so much. It wasn't easy. I am strong—maybe I'm just meant to love a lot of people in my life."
Jessica Simpson Says New Music 'Saved' Her
Simpson added that the children that she and Eric share, Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5, remain their top priority. "Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage," she said. "Our children come first and we are focusing on what is best for them."
As for what's best for her, she's been focusing on her music, which she describes as a saving grace. "Having this creative outlet, it's like your heart breaks and you go into a songwriting session—like going straight into therapy," she says. "I have always said it was cheesy when people said the music saved my life but it truly saved mine."
