A recent article has seen Jessica Simpson bare a lot to the world, from candid discussions about her prior marriage to singer Nick Lachey to frank confessions about her 100lb. weight loss, which Jessica credited in part to stopping drinking. However, it was the photoshoot that was part of the interview that fans have seized on, with images of the pop singer and lifestyle brand guru being compared to semi-infamous beauty influencer Jeffree Star.
“Why is she [giving] me Jeffrey [sic] Star vibes? Not good! I know Jess is beautiful but…,” one user wrote in Jessica’s Instagram comments for her post sharing snaps from the Bustle shoot—and they weren’t the only ones comparing the entrepreneur to the YouTube makeup mogul.

Fans Compare Jessica Simpson to Jeffree Star In Latest Photoshoot
Last Thursday, Jessica posted photos from her Bustle cover story shoot featuring poses modeling a pair of booty-baring bedazzled jeans, a white leotard with high platform heels, and even a cheeky tongue-out pic with the star showing off a collared jacket and several bling-y necklaces. What fans couldn’t get over, however, was the “I Wanna Love You Forever” singer’s changed appearance.
Jessica, who has been open about her weight loss journey since delivering her third baby in 2019, looked markedly thinner in the face than we’ve ever seen her—and followers of her Instagram page were quick to point out the fact. “She doesn’t look like Jessica anymore,” one commenter said. Another agreed: “I don’t even recognize her, she looks like someone else.”
The main comparison commenters drew was between Jessica and Jeffree Star, an influencer and beauty mogul famous for getting into social media beefs and hot water due to his tumultuous past. "Jeffrey (sic) Star...is that you???" read one of the top comments on the post. "Literally thought this was Jeffrey (sic) Star, oops," another user noted. Jeffree is notable for his long blonde hair and contoured makeup looks, which seemed to remind followers of Jessica's appearance in the Bustle shoot. And he wasn't the only one—several fans also compared the Dukes of Hazzard star's look to fellow actress Daryl Hannah, also known for long blonde locks and sculpted cheekbones. "Totally Daryl Hannah!!! She doesn't look like Jessica anymore," said a commenter.
"The overall styling of this shoot (from lighting, wardrobe, makeup, aesthetic) is odd," one user wrote, in response to the overall perception of the photo spread.
Jessica Simpson Gets Real With Bustle
Fans weren't the only ones being honest in regards to the shoot—Jessica herself was an open book for the accompanying Bustle July cover story, which spanned topics from the star taking over her eponymous company to her health struggles to her return to music. "Am I going to let the negativity derail me? No, I’m too old for that," she told the magazine, referring to the public baring of her soul in her 2020 memoir, Open Book. I am too connected to myself right now to let that derail me. It doesn't mean that it doesn’t hurt."
Jessica even confronted suspicions that she had used the diabetes drug Ozempic during the course of her notable 100lb. weight-loss journey: "Oh Lord. I mean, it is not…it’s willpower," she said when the rumors were brought up. "I’m like, do people want me to be drinking again? Because that’s when I was heavier. Or they want me to be having another baby? My body can’t do it."

The Newlyweds star was also, characteristically, an "open book" about the other ways her alcohol abuse was impacting her life even beyond weight gain and retention, and how she made the final decision to stop. "I stopped drinking because I was like, I can’t even make a dream board [for my new music]," she told the magazine. "For me to see it, I have to un-numb and go through therapy and unlock the light because it’s not there right now. Open Book opened me up to my child self, and I went back to all those journals and I’m reading my dream boards and everything started unfolding beautifully to where alcohol was just — I never thought about it again."
Jessica famously bought back her namesake brand in 2021 for a whopping $54 million, and has been working hard on her various product lines ever since. She has not yet responded to the remarks made regarding her appearance in the shoot, both in her Instagram comments and elsewhere.
