There is undeniably an added pressure on celebs to always look their best with all the time they spend in front of the camera. And while some are hesitant to reveal what they look like under all the makeup, some flaunt their bare skin with pride. Jessica Simpson has been in the spotlight since the 90’s, and has finally shared her best secrets for a flawless complexion at 40, even when life as a mother of three is working against her.
Simpson has always been a beauty, with or without a full face of makeup, and the busy mom now frequently bares clear, glowing skin as the product of her tried and true skincare routine. The singer recently posted a stunning snap on Instagram, showing off her flawless complexion without a stitch of makeup, captioning the post, “The maze of quarantined holiday Motherhood has knocked me on my butt...well for the next 5 mins at least. Ha.”
The 40-year-old opened up in her new memoir Open Book about her struggles with self confidence over the years, and has admitted in the past that she dabbled in lip fillers before realizing that she liked the natural look better. She explained to Glamour in 2006, “I had that Restylane stuff. But it fades — it went away in like four months... My lips are back to what they were. Thank God! It looked fake to me. I didn't like that."
Now, Simpson is fond of sharing the occasional makeup-free selfie to her social media, and is proud of her appearance with or without makeup. The singer posted another stunning snap right before Christmas, commenting, “Two blondes waiting for the sun to rise,” and posing with her pup.
Fortunately her skincare routine is no secret, as Simpson has shared that she swears by Epicuren’s Herbal Cleanser as well as La Mer’s Moisturizing Cream to lock everything in place. Simpson has notably struggled with eczema over the years as well, and for flare ups she uses the topical cream Eucrisa to banish her symptoms.
It can be difficult to be constantly inundated with perfectly made up celebrities on social media who are unwilling to bare their natural face, and Simpson is a breath of fresh air, openly discussing her skincare struggles, insecurities, and the lengths she has gone to for her beauty routine. We may not all have the funds to invest hundreds of dollars into our skincare, but it’s refreshing to see celebs such as Simpson willing to open up and show what’s behind the perfectly curated public mask every once in a while.
