Joanna Gaines opens up about feeling emotional for the first time

Joanna Gaines is known for being the tough one in her relationship with Chip—something she confirmed on the podcast. In the episode titled, “Walking in Trust with Joanna Gaines,” she told Alex and Libby “I’m not super emotional, Chip is the emotional one.” But recently, the tables have turned, and Joanna has been dealing with a lot more emotions. “I have turned into something I don’t understand now,” she continued.

“[Chip]’s like, ‘You cry all the time,’ and I’m like, ‘I’m making up for the 20 years that I have been unemotional!'” Joanna explains. But she’s not afraid of these new emotions, and is taking them in stride. “There’s so much healing in not holding things in…Now I just love crying,” the mother-of-five revealed. “It feels good to feel.” And she has a lot of feelings to feel with many big life events occurring, one of them being her first child leaving for college.

Joanna Gaines' oldest child just left for college and she's barely holding it together

Chip and Joanna have five kids together: Drake, 18, Ella, 17, Duke, 15, Emmie, 13, and Crew, 5. Drake just left for college this fall, and Joanna has had a tough time coming to terms with his absence. "I've always said I don't like change," Joanna said. "I have learned to exercise a muscle I didn't know I had."

She continued, saying, "It's like holding sadness and joy all in one thing."

Luckily, Chip and Joanna have a lot to distract themselves with. The power couple is starring in the newest Magnolia Network seriesFixer Upper: The Hotel. According to their Instagram page, the show will be all about their rennovating "a boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Waco, Texas."
