Joe Biden Had A Cancerous Lesion Removed, White House Doctor Reveals
March 10, 2023 by Marissa Matozzo
According to President Joe Biden‘s White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor, a lesion removed during the politician’s physical last month was cancerous.
The doctor released an update in a March 3rd statement revealing that Biden, 80 (who is currently the nation’s oldest sitting president) had a small cancerous lesion removed from his chest in February. Here’s what we know:
In his statement, O’Connor told the American people, “As expected, the biopsy confirmed that the small lesion was basal cell carcinoma. All cancerous tissue was successfully removed. … No further treatment is required.”
He continued, detailing the condition, “Basal cell carcinoma lesions do not tend to ‘spread’ or metastasize, as some more serious skin cancers such as melanoma or squamous cell carcinoma are known to do.”
O’Connor went on, “They do, however, have the potential to increase in size, resulting in a more significant issue as well as increased challenges for surgical removal.”
The medical expert also noted that the “site of the biopsy has healed nicely and the President will continue dermatologic surveillance as part of his ongoing comprehensive healthcare.”

Biden had his second physical as president at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on February 16th. O’Connor, as ABC News reports, gave Biden a “clean bill of health following the exam,” stating that the President remained “fit for duty” and was able to fulfill his responsibilities “without any exemptions or accommodations.” Before he entered office in 2021, Biden had several non-melanoma skin cancers removed with Mohs surgery.
First Lady Jill Biden also underwent Mohs surgery in January 2023 to have a skin cancer lesion removed from above her right eye. This was previously discovered during a routine skin cancer screening.
At the time, O’Connor confirmed that all of the cancerous tissue was removed. During the procedure, Jill Biden also had an “area of concern” removed from the left side of her chest, as ABC points out, that was consistent with basal cell carcinoma.
