Meghan Markle Allegedly Harbors Political Ambitions
The interview comment stemmed from speculation that the Duchess of Sussex might be interested in chasing a political career in the near future. In March 2021, investigative journalist Tom Bower, who is working on an unauthorized biography of Meghan Markle, stated that "The prospect of Meghan running for president is possible and I'd even say likely," adding, "I really believe it's where she sees herself going." Of course, Meghan wouldn't be the only person from the acting profession to look toward a political path—other famous actor pols include former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, former president Ronald Reagan, and even to a degree Donald Trump himself, famous for cameos in films like Home Alone 2 before running for president in 2016.
According to GB News' Emily Carver, however, Meghan's political ambitions may end up being at odds with husband Prince Harry's own desires. "It’s a little bit tricky," the commentator said this week. "[Harry and Meghan] have very different ambitions...Meghan Markle in the White House. Now that would be something!"
Sister Of President Joe Biden Approves Of Possible Meghan Markle Democratic Career
Interestingly, Meghan recently topped a poll that asked Democrats which women they would vote for. On a list including former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, the former Suits star came out nearly on top, tying with current Vice President Kamala Harris. Former U.K. Liberal Democrat Minster Norman Baker said of the poll results, "It’s extraordinary. American politics is so unpredictable, so who knows what they would do about it...According to this story, she is the most popular female potential candidate...American politics is bonkers, but this is beyond bonkers." Indeed, one polling expert told the New York Post that the Duchess' name being floated as a potential presidential candidate simply highlights the "fact that the choices the Democrats have are not great."
Meghan seems to have gotten approval from one strategically-placed Democratic operative, at the very least: the President's sister, Valerie Biden Owens. Owens gave her nod to Markle's possible future in politics while appearing on Good Morning Britain to discuss the release of her new book Growing Up Biden, ultimately saying that "yes, perhaps, of course she will" make a good potential candidate someday for the American presidency. Biden Owens added, "The more women we have [in politics], the better our democratic system will work with a better point of view, a different point of view and we embrace all women."
The endorsement follows the awkward news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had allegedly attempted to fly on Air Force One after the Queen's funeral, but were "denied" the privilege by President Joe Biden.
