Josh Gad's 40-Pound Weight Loss

Appearing on an episode of Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard and Monica Padman earlier this week, Gad revealed that he's taking GLP-1, a weight loss medication similar to Ozempic. "I'm on a GLP-1...this is the first time I've opened up about this," he explained. "It has suppressed, in a great way, that noise...when I wake up, I feel hunger pains—and so much of that is psychological."

"And what it does is it takes away that signal," he continued. "It is a miracle drug." He went on to explain that he wanted to lose weight to "be there for his kids," Ava, 14, and Isabella, 10, who he shares with his wife, Ida Darvish.

Gad added that he lost 40 pounds on a different medication, but had to switch because the former medication caused him to develop diverticulitis, which is the inflammation of irregular building pouches in the colon. "I was really bummed out because it was working incredibly for me and I had to switch. So, like, I'm you know figuring out this new one, and it is life-changing, but it also doesn't negate the fact that it can't be in the place of having a healthy relationship with food."

Unfortunately, while Gad is pretty excited about the drug and how it's changing his life for the better, his wife, Ida Darvish, isn't as excited, explaining that she's "not thrilled" that he takes it. Shepard asked if it was because "she's worried you're not going to confront the core thing that's driving [weight gain]," and Gad confirmed. "I'm having my own journey with it, though," he added.
