In a super candid interview as part of Harper’s Bazaar‘s Food Diaries series, Julianne Hough let fans in on what she eats in a day to maintain her flat stomach and super-toned figure. Keep reading to learn more about what the Dancing With The Stars host fuels her body with.
Breakfast
Hough's morning food intake is limited to mostly drinks or supplements. She explains that she has lemon water as soon as she wakes up in the morning because it makes her feel like she's "cleaning her system out."
Next, she'll have either celery juice or amino acid supplements before a quick workout "just to give me that energy I'm looking for." The Footloose actress then explained that while she "loves the taste of coffee," she's "technically not supposed to have coffee," and instead opts for a matcha latte or an herbal tea.
Lunch
For lunch, Hough moves on to solid foods – sort of. She says one of her favorite lunches is soup, and that she'll actually prep a bunch of soups over the weekend to have during the week. For example, a butternut squash soup with carrot is a common choice for lunch.
She'll pair her soup with a salad, usually consisting of "asparagus, broccolini, some beets, watermelon radishes with some ginger on top over a bed of spinach," and will dress it up with some apple cider vinegar, which she says "helps the digestion."
This may not sound delicious to most foodies, and Hough acknowledges that. "I sound so LA right now with all this gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, but it's because my body needs it," she explains. "I'm really just trying to focus on my health from the inside out."
Dinner
For dinner, Hough's favorite is mung daal, an Indian dish made with dried yellow split peas. Then she'll add some gluten free crackers, some toasted black sesame seeds, sweet potatoes, asparagus, ginger, collard greens, Swiss chard, and spinach.
And finally, what we've all been waiting for, dessert. As a sweet end to the night, Hough will enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail. Hough closed the interview with this message: "If I can give you any words of encouragement with what you eat, it's enjoy yourself, everything in moderation, and if you love your body and you love what you're putting into your body, your body's going to know."
Pre And Post Workout
Although a lot of these foods sound perfect for eating pre and post-workout, Delish reported back in 2020 that the Grease Live! star enjoys steamed eggs with tomato and avocado to help her refuel after a workout – be that an intense workout in the gym or an epic dance session.
Elle also previously noted that the Safe Haven actress sometimes likes to workout before breakfast, so in that instance, will fuel up on a green juice beforehand. There's no specific recipe for this, and told the pub she picks from what she has in her refrigerator. We like her style! "I usually like it a little sweeter, less bitter, so I put in a green apple, some spinach, kale," she said. "Again, if I want it sweeter, I'll put some carrots in. But I love ginger, and lemon too, so I'll put that in. Cucumber, celery, anything green, really. Sometimes I'll add beets too, depending on my mood."
