It was a triumphant night for the film, with the cast receiving a thunderous 17-minute standing ovation—the longest of the 2024 festival so far.
The Room Next Door Receives Long Standing Ovation At Venice Film Festival
According to Variety, The Room Next Door tells the story of Ingrid (Moore) and Martha (Swinton), who were close friends in their youth while working at the same magazine. After years apart, they reconnect when Martha is diagnosed with a terminal illness and chooses to take control of her own fate.
The applause for The Room Next Door has been the longest of the festival thus far, surpassing other major standing ovations such as The Brutalist (12 minutes) and Pablo Larrain’s Maria (eight minutes), which stars Angelina Jolie as the iconic opera singer Maria Callas.
Following its premiere in Venice, the movie will be released in theaters on December 20 by Sony Pictures Classics.
