2021 has been a busy year as far as celebrity pregnancies and celebrity births were concerned – and we were almost convinced that Justin Bieber and his wife Hailey Bieber were going to be on that list of new (or at the very least, expectant) parents, given how open they have both been about their desire to have a baby in the not-so-distant future.
However, even though they have openly discussed their baby plans with the press over the past year, there have also been some reports that don’t always support this, leaving us very confused and desperate for answers! We would love to see a mini Bieber in the next few years; but will it happen as soon as we think? Let’s assess some of the clues we have received this year in relation to Justin and Hailey wanting to expand their family, and also some of the things we thought were clues that they were expecting but were actually shut down.
Justin's response in his documentary
In the 27-year-old Canadian singer's new Amazon Prime documentary, Justin Bieber: Our World, which was released in October this year but filmed at the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021, there is a scene where Justin asks Hailey if they could start trying for a baby at the end of the year. His question was in response to the 25-year-old model asking him about his hopes for 2021, and Justin famously said: "To continue to set goals and have fun doing them, make sure I put family first. And hopefully we will squish out a nugget. At the end of 2021 how about we start trying?" Hailey can be seen with a very evident smile on her face when he asks the question, and responds with a very ominous, "we shall see."
We thought Hailey was pregnant at the Met Gala
Many fans thought that Hailey was pregnant at the Met Gala in September, as the "Yummy" singer placed his hand on her stomach in quite a few pictures. However, many sources shut down the rumors almost immediately and confirmed that Hailey was not pregnant. There is even video evidence of the model telling her husband not to place his hand there, as she was probably already aware about the connotations.
Hailey wants to focus on modeling
Despite Hailey smiling in the documentary when Justin told her about his dreams of expanding their family, several sources have also hinted that Hailey isn’t ready for pregnancy just yet. In May 2021, a source told Entertainment Tonight that Hailey is focused on her modeling career right now, which makes sense as she has recently modelled for big names such as Victoria's Secret and Jimmy Choo, as well as strutted her stuff on many huge runways from Moschino to Versace to Dolce and Gabbana, among others. "Hailey is super focused on her career right now and isn't in a rush to have kids," the source said. "Of course they have talked about their future and building a family together someday, but both of them are busy with work right now and Hailey really wants to build up her YouTube channel. The two of them are very supportive of each other."
Justin's "mom and dad" Instagram post
The "Peaches" singer almost broke the internet when he posted a black and white picture of himself with Hailey back in July, with the caption, "mom and dad." Fans were convinced that that was their way of confirming that they were expecting (there aren’t many other ways to interpret that caption, so we don’t blame anyone who jumped to that conclusion!) however, that didn’t appear to be the case. Mr and Mrs Bieber were reportedly very happy to announce a four-legged addition to their family, which Hailey confirmed with a comment shortly after. She wrote: "I think u should maybe change this caption to *Dog Mom and Dad* before anyone gets it twisted [sic]," alongside a laughing emoji.
Hailey told her friend that she wants to be a mom "one day"
We started the year off truly believing that Justin and Hailey were on the road to parenthood, but then some other rumors and reports almost put an end to that belief. However, perhaps to confuse us further, Hailey actually confirmed earlier this month that she does see kids in her and Justin's future – although she didn’t give any indication on when that might be. Speaking to British model and friend Rosie Huntington-Whiteley on her YouTube talk show Who’s in My Bathroom? Hailey said that although she doesn’t know anything about motherhood at the moment, she isn’t going to let that stop her from wanting to try for a baby "one day." She said: "I literally know zero about being a mom, but I do want kids one day." Now we just have to work out how soon that day actually is!
