Back in January, Coachella announced that Kanye West would headline their annual festival in April, and fans eagerly rushed to grab tickets for his April 17th and 24th performances and potential Sunday Service-style show (like his iconic 2019 one). The rapper, 44, who is legally known as Ye, has ruffled more than a few feathers since then, from bashing his ex Kim Kardashian on Instagram to alluding to her boyfriend Pete Davidson’s death in his “Eazy” music video to threatening to skip Coachella if fellow headliner Billie Eilish didn’t apologize to Travis Scott for what he deemed “a diss,” which she adamantly denied.
And that’s not all— a Change.org petition is currently circling online to remove the legendary artist from Coachella’s lineup and it currently has over 46,000 signatures. It was started by a user, Caramello Marie with the alias “Kim Pete” and its description reads, “We have watched Kanye harass, manipulate, and hurt Kim, Pete, and others for over a year now.”

“No one seems to want to stand up to him, and the ones that do, he puts under fire as well,” the writer continued. “Most recently, he has been threatening actual bodily harm on others. This is ridiculous that he is allowed to freely do this. Coachella (along with other brand names that are still working with him) should be ashamed of themselves and should not be giving him any more of a platform. Please sign & share!”
The petition was launched on March 17th after West’s suspension on IG for his post about The Daily Show host Trevor Noah which contained racial slurs. Noah had commented on West’s treatment of Kardashian on a recent episode of his show, calling Ye’s actions “terrifying to watch.” In response, the musician targeted Noah in a way that naturally upset many of his fans.

After the release of his long-awaited record Donda, Ye was reportedly set to perform at the 2022 Grammys (which will be hosted by Noah) but his performance was cancelled due to “concerning online behavior.” According to Variety, West’s team were contacted by the Grammys, revealing that “unfortunately” a planned performance (which wasn’t previously announced) would no longer take place due to Ye’s “concerning online behaviors,” citing a report in the Blast.
Even with Coachella less than a month away, fans on Twitter are discussing how it “seems anything can happen” in the coming weeks, and the petition continues to garner signatures by the minute. West remains silent on the matter and has yet to mention the petition on his social media accounts.
