Karoline Leavitt is making the most of her maternity leave and recently shared a sweet glimpse into life at home with her growing family.
The White House press secretary welcomed her second child, a daughter named Viviana, on May 1. In a recent Instagram photo dump, Leavitt reflected on the past month, writing, “May memories. So grateful for this precious time with my sweet babies.”
The carousel opened with a heartwarming sunset photo of the 28-year-old wearing a crisp white midi dress featuring a collared neckline and elbow-length sleeves. She smiled over her shoulder at the camera while holding her nearly 2-year-old son, Nicholas “Niko” Robert Riccio, who appeared captivated by the view.

Karoline Leavitt Goes On Maternity Leave
Karoline is currently on maternity leave and has not been permanently replaced. Instead, a rotating group of administration officials and Cabinet members has been stepping in to handle White House press briefings during her absence.
She officially stepped away from her duties in late April 2026, although she briefly returned to the podium on April 27 to address reporters following an active shooter incident connected to the White House Correspondents' Dinner. The White House has not announced a specific date for her return.
In the meantime, media communications and press briefings are being led by a mix of administration officials and members, including Marco Rubio, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Steven Cheung, and Vice President JD Vance.
Ahead of her leave, the mom of two opened up about balancing motherhood and one of the most high-profile jobs in Washington. In an Instagram post shared on April 26, she reflected on the challenges of preparing for another child while serving as press secretary.
“When my husband and I found out we were expecting another child, my first thought was overwhelming gratitude and joy,” she wrote. “My second thought was, ‘How the heck am I going to do this job, with a toddler, and while pregnant?’ Well, 39 weeks later, we did it. Be back soon!”
