Finding the perfect foundation isn’t always an easy feat, especially for those with oily skin looking for something lightweight that will last throughout the day without budging. Most matte formulas fall short in the coverage department and never deliver the wear that they promise. Now, it looks like Kat Von D Beauty has the answer us no-makeup makeup lovers have been waiting for. The brand just launched its True Portrait Foundation, which is a lightweight, medium-coverage vegan formula that’s designed to blur pores and deliver that flawless, seamless glow all day long.
TRY IT: Kat Von D Beauty True Portrait Foundation ($36)
What sets True Portrait apart from other foundations in its category is its innovative liquid-to-powder formula that allows the foundation to set into a beautiful long-wear, airy matte finish. It also contains the brand’s Elastic Essence™ Effect technology that helps the formula flex with all of your expressions.
True Portrait Foundation is available in 40 shades to ensure that everyone has their perfect match, an element that was crucial for brand founder Kat Von D when designing the product. “I want to give major props to my team for working so hard with me on curating 40 shades to make the perfect match for EVERY SKIN TONE,” she wrote on Instagram, noting that the “heavenly” formula “feels like vegan silk on your skin.”
Kat Von D Beauty teamed up with singer Jhené Aiko to celebrate its exciting new launch, who is a fan of the True Portrait’s silky, lightweight finish herself. "I’ve used Kat Von D Beauty for years and I love that everything is cruelty-free and vegan,” Aiko tells SheFinds. “It’s hard for me to find shades that match me without having to add another foundation, mixing it up or something, so I love that it’s a liquid-to-powder and that I don’t have to set it with powder; I can use my fingers to put it on just because of how silky the texture is.”
The "Sativa" singer fell in love with the foundation's mattifying formula at first, which helps her control shine, but says the brand's inclusive campaign and shade range with really resonated with her. "It’s such a raw spectrum of real women and it’s not just like models. The representation was important to me," she says. "I have never found a foundation that matched for me right away; it’s either the undertone is wrong, or the way that it dries is different than how it was when I first put it on. So, for me, it’s just been my perfect match.”
